Our 5-year-old class is a transitional 5-year-old class for children who
are not ready for a full-day Kindergarten. The class has additional
structure and instruction from a 4-year-old class. This class can also
serve children who just miss the new public school cut-off date of August 31.
The cut-off date for the 5-year-old class is October 16 (except for the
registration of currently enrolled children).

Accreditation: UPPS has been accredited by the
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1987.
Substantial changes in philosophy and criteria for accreditation have been instated beginning
January 2006. We believe they are both unrealistic and inappropriate for our preschool.
In addition, the increased costs of maintaining accreditation will hinder UPPS's mission
to continue providing the high quality education associated with this preschool for
over 43 years. As a result, UPPS has elected to discontinue its accreditation. Our
current accreditation expired in June 2007. Despite this election, UPPS will continue
to meet the NAEYC standards under which it was accredited in 2001.
Application deadline: We begin receiving
applications for the entry-level class (2-year-olds) on February
1 prior to the year of enrollment. Applications for all other age groups are
received year round—on a rolling basis. The cut-off date for those applying to the
2- and 3-year-old classes for the 2009–2010 school year will be August 31. This will
comply with the new state cut-off date, which will begin in fall 2009.
Application fee: $30, non refundable
School starts: In September; the
Tuesday after Labor Day. Home visits and a short visit day are at
the end of August.
